Starting preschool is the time children learn to leave their parents and trust someone outside the home environment. Parents and teachers need to work together to help the child and to ensure it is a happy experience and the adjustment between home and preschool is as smooth as possible.
We suggest that you bring your child to preschool to visit with you prior to their first day. We recommend that they come to your initial interview and if possible join in activities with the other children whilst they are here.
We recommend that for the first few days, until your child becomes familiar with the Centre, that you stay with your child whilst they settle at an activity, then collect them early (if possible). Your child needs to learn that you will return. Don't slip away! Tell your child when you are going and that you will return. Once your are leaving, say goodbye and leave quickly. Long, drawn-out farewells upset your child because the moment of separation is continually postponed. Please feel welcome to call us during the day if your are still concerned. We will also ring you if there is a problem. The settling in period is usually brief - just until your child fees secure in his/her new environment.
